I just wanted to take a moment and tell a little about how good God is to me. I have walked a pretty rough life and I've said and sone some things that I am not proud of. But God takes me and tells me that its alright. Its only alright because Jesus has forgiven me and I am atoning everyday.
I atone with my prayer. I atone by fighting in the name of the Lord. It takes a lot more than just being a good person...being a good person should go without saying.

I agree. God is good. All day, every day. Atonement however is useless. Ephesians 2:8-10 tells us that all our good works are nothing, but that Jesus himself ordained the situations so that we may commit these good works. Our God was good before us, before our salvation, before the perceived blessing we find. Our works are not atonement, but soley conformation of the Love and Admiration we have for The Father, and we now live for. The reflection of the Love of all Loves, and the Grace of all Graces. Our job is to forget about our past as we knew it, and see it through the eyes of the Savior. He paid for it, he now redeems it. The past Paul had, "the chief of sinners" I Timothy 1:15, should show us, that no matter who we are, we are loved as we are and no atonement could make up for our past. We are called to be more than Conquerors. Romans 8:37. We do this not in making up for our past, but walking in the Light that shows us where to be and what to be doing. Don't be looking to make up for anything, look to live in grace and providence. He has already atoned for everything you have ever done, and ever will do. His grace and love go far beyond anything we could ever do to earn it.
